Volunteers to Clean Historic Markers in Zion Memorial Cemetery

The Canby Heritage and Landmark Commission is once again partnering with the Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries to clean historic grave markers at the city-owned, 122-year-old Zion Memorial Cemetery on Township Road.

The first historic marker cleaning was held last year in a different part of the cemetery, and was so successful the Heritage and Landmark Commission is looking to do it again. They are seeking volunteers to assist with the project. Tools, gloves and chemicals (specially designed for use in historic cemeteries) will be provided, along with the real essentials: coffee and doughnuts.

Larry Vargas, of the Canby Heritage and Landmark Commission, says volunteering for the clean-up is a great way to learn about ā€” and help preserve ā€” Canby’s history.

The cleaning will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21. To register, please contact Judi Jarosh at 503-887-3047 or jmjarosh@msn.com.
