‘Ten Years Awesome’: Bricks & Minifigs Celebrates Decade in Business

When Bricks & Minifigs Canby owner and lifelong Lego lover David Thornton first heard about the store, he flat-out refused to believe such a thing could exist.

He was living in California at the time, and an acquaintance from Canby told him about the store, which was located downtown on Northwest First at the time.

“She said, ‘You like Legos? You should come to Canby,'” he told the Canby Now Podcast in May. “‘We have a store that buys, sells and trades new and used Legos.’ I said, ‘Those places don’t exist. You must be wrong.’ It was just such an unbelievable concept to me at the time.”

After his first visit, though, he became a believer.

“It was like nothing I had ever seen,” he said. “It was very quaint, very small, but as someone who grew up ogling Lego catalogues, to walk into that shop for the first time, the magic just hit me immediately.”

Thornton and his family eventually moved to Canby, and he jumped at the opportunity to purchase the local Bricks & Minifigs franchise when it went on the market a few years later.

Now located in spacious digs along Highway 99E, the Canby Bricks & Minifigs store is celebrating “ten years of awesome” with its 10-year anniversary party and sale today.

“Bricks & Minifigs began in 2010 with the wild idea that LEGO hobbyists and families needed a cool spot to buy, sell, and trade new & used LEGO sets, Minifigures, and bulk pieces,” the store said in a Facebook post this morning. “Who could have foreseen us ten years later?”

As the Canby store has grown, so has the Bricks & Minifigs franchise, which is now the nation’s largest chain of independent Lego retailers, encompassing more than 30 stores across the country.

The sale includes 20% off used and custom-built sets and case figurines Saturday and Sunday, special rates for u-pick bulk bags and other freebies and specials throughout the store.

“Thank you, friends, for 10 years of critical support!” the store said. “We would not be here without you, nor would we want to be!”
