Both lanes of the Hubbard Cutoff Road (Highway 551) were closed for several hours Monday morning as Oregon State Police investigated a serious injury crash that occurred there near the Aurora State Airport.
Aurora Fire District with assistance from Canby Fire District and TVF&R responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash involving an SUV and dump truck. Firefighters arrived to find that there were two people injured, with the driver of the SUV trapped in their vehicle.
The driver of the dump truck was able to get out of the vehicle on their own. A TVF&R ambulance treated and transported the driver of the dump truck to an area trauma hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
It took firefighters 32 minutes to cut and remove parts of the vehicle to free the trapped SUV driver. The driver was treated by Woodburn Ambulance personnel and transported by Life Flight to a Portland area trauma hospital with critical injuries.
Oregon State Police is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
