Speeding Driver Killed in Crash After Fleeing Police in Oregon City

A driver died in a single-vehicle crash after attempting to flee Oregon City Police early Wednesday morning.

About midnight, an officer spotted the car speeding down Highway 213 and tried to stop the driver where the highway intersects with Beavercreek Road, near Clackamas Community College.

Police said the driver was speeding and continued west on Beavercreek before turning into the Fred Meyer parking lot at 1839 Molalla Avenue. After slowly driving through the parking lot, the driver accelerated and fled from police, traveling on Gaffney Lane.

After skidding through a turn, the car went airborne and crashed into a fence and shed near Gaffney Lane and Berta Drive, police said.

The driver, who has not been publicly identified, died at the scene.
