Pedestrian Killed on Mount Hood Highway East of Sandy

A pedestrian was struck and killed on Highway 26 between Sandy and Cherryville Thursday morning, Oregon State Police reported.

OSP responded to the reported vehicle vs. pedestrian crash on Highway 26, also known as Mount Hood Highway, near Southeast Paha Loop at approximately 6:30 a.m.

According to troopers, a Nissan Xterra, operated by 25-year-old Brendan Bollock, of Welches, was westbound on 26 when the pedestrian, 63-year-old Eric Echtinaw, of Sandy, reportedly ran in front of the vehicle and was struck.

Echtinaw sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, OSP says.

Police say Bullock remained at the scene and cooperated with their investigation.

The OSP collision reconstruction unit responded to investigate.

OSP was assisted by ODOT, Sandy Fire, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, and the Clackamas County Medical Examiner’s Office.
