The 2020 Oregon Renaissance Faire is officially a thing of the past…in more ways than one. The popular annual event at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds was originally postponed from its traditional setting in June to mid-September by the nonprofit Washington Renaissance Arts & Education Society, to coincide with the new Celtic Festival, which is also hosted by WRAES.
Even when new guidance came down from Governor Kate Brown came down that large events must be canceled through at least September, organizers told the Canby Now Podcast they were hoping to still salvage some sort of events since they fell so late on the governor’s timeline.
But the group announced Wednesday morning that both events would be canceled outright. Chalk up another win for the summer of corona, and another loss for culture and fun.
“The world and the event industry has been drastically changed due to Covid-19, and our lives have had to change with it,” the WRAES board of directors said in its announcement. “We continue to be optimistic for our future and for the future of all live events.”
Next year’s Oregon Renaissance Faire has been scheduled for June 5-6 and 12-13, 2021, while the inaugural Oregon Celtic Festival has been pushed back to Sept. 17-19, 2021.
