North Maple Street to be Repaved and Improved between 10th and 14th Streets

The Canby City Council has awarded a half-million contract for street improvements on North Maple Street between 10th and 14th streets. The scope of the work includes street resurfacing and the addition of curbs, gutters and sidewalks on both sides of the street.

The city received eight bids for the project and selected the lowest one, $522,949.50, from Sherwood-based Eagle-Elsner Inc. The city received a $400,000 grant for the project from the Oregon Department of Transportation. The remaining $123,000 will come from the city’s storm, sewer and street fund.

The inclusion of sidewalks and other improvements was made possible through the cooperation of property owners along Maple Street, a fact that did not go unnoticed last week. Here’s City Administrator Rick Robinson.

The city approved the contract with an emergency clause so the work can begin as soon as possible. Robinson said the hope is that the project will be completed prior to the busy summer season at Maple Street Park.
