Motorcyclist Killed in Possible Drunken-Driving Crash Near Sandy

A crash between a Victory motorcycle and a Kia Spectra left a man dead Thursday night on Highway 211 southwest of Sandy, according to the Oregon State Police.

Troopers responded just after 9 p.m. to find that the motorcycle attempted to pass in a no-passing zone and crashed head-on into an oncoming car.

The collision occurred on Highway 211 between Sandy and the community of Eagle Creek.

The motorcyclist, 31-year-old Levi Vargas, of Sandy, was transported via Life Flight air ambulance to Oregon Health & Sciences University hospital but was pronounced dead there. Troopers are investigating impairment as a contributing factor in the crash.

The driver of the Kia Spectra, Charles Maples, also 31 and a Sandy resident, was not injured.

Highway 211 was closed for about two hours while the Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the scene.
