Motorcyclist Killed in Crash with Semi-Trailer on Ehlen Road near Aurora

A person driving a motorcycle was killed in a rear-end crash with a semi-trailer Thursday morning on Ehlen Road NE in Aurora between Interstate 5 and Highway 551.

The crash occurred at approximately 7 a.m. A 911 caller reported that a motorcyclist had collided with a trailer being towed by a semi-tractor, and the rider had sustained significant injuries.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Aurora Fire District responded. The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the semi-tractor was not injured.

Crash scene investigators reported that the semi-tractor was traveling eastbound on Ehlen Road and pulling two empty flat-bed trailers. The motorcyclist was also traveling eastbound and struck the back of the rear trailer at high speed, investigators said.

At the time of the crash, the rider was traveling directly toward the sun, and this may have limited the visibility of the rider, according to the crash scene investigators. The driver of the semi-tractor remained on scene and cooperated with deputies. No citations have been issued as a result of the collision.

The identity of the deceased motorcyclist has not been released pending notification of the next of kin.

Woodburn Ambulance, Marion County Medical Examiner’s Office, Marion County Public Works, Oregon Department of Transportation and American Medical Response also assisted.
