Fire District Bans All Weekend Burning due to Heat Wave

Canby Fire advises that all burning will be prohibited in the district this weekend due to extremely dangerous fire conditions.

“We will be a red flag warning Saturday and Sunday at this point,” Canby Fire Division Chief Matt English tells the Canby Now Podcast, “which means absolutely no burning of any kind due to high temperature, low humidity and moderate wind speeds in the area.”

Several large wildfires have broken out on the West Coast this week, including one in the Mosier Creek area. A number of area fire crews have been deployed to assist with the conflagration in Wasco County, including a three-person unit from Canby Fire that arrived Thursday.

“The crew is working on the head of the fire and everybody is doing well,” English says.

The Mosier Creek fire has spread to nearly 1,000 acres as of Friday morning, and is reportedly only about 10 percent contained.
