Equipment NW Rescues Boat on Highway 99E

One of Canby’s newest businesses, Equipment NW, helped out a boater Friday who got just a little too eager to hit the water as he was on his way through town.

General Manager Harley Brattain said the man’s aluminum fishing boat came loose from his trailer on Highway 99E in front of a neighboring NAPA store. Equipment NW, which is a licensed SANY dealer that sells, rents and services a variety of heavy equipment, and crew used a new Merlo frontloader to intervene in what he called the “unfortunate disembarking.”

“This boat came off the trailer in front of NAPA, and we used one of our machines to pick it up off the highway and set it back onto his trailer,” he explained. “Canby police blocked traffic while we lifted it.”

Equipment NW opened earlier this year at 593 SE First Ave., a historic, 1940s-era building that was originally built for an agricultural machinery dealer, but has also served as a number of other businesses over the years, including Millar’s Point S Tire and Auto and Roth Heating & Cooling.
