Current Unveils New Brand for Hometown Sports Coverage: Cougar Country

Die-hard Canby sports fans have a new home for live, local coverage of Canby-area sports and athletics: Cougar Country, the newest brand innovation from The Canby Current and Now Hear This Media Group.

The name, which encapsulates Canby’s beloved Cougars and the community’s fiercely independent, small-town Americana identity, was the brainchild of NHT co-owner Tyler Francke.

NHT and the Current worked with a creative team to bring the brand to life using CHS colors and past logos for inspiration.

“Sports and other extracurricular activities are the lifeblood for a school district and places with a strong sense of community identity like Canby,” Francke explained. “We went into this fall season with one goal: to bolster our sports coverage and give our amazing student-athletes a taste of the recognition they so richly deserve.

“I want to thank our incredible team of writer Antonio Arredondo and photographer Jordy Villagomez for helping make that possible.”

Initially, Cougar Country will be the brand name for the existing sports coverage appearing on CanbyFirst.com, the Now Hear This: Canby podcast and the Current‘s social media properties.

But NHT is exploring the possibility of future endeavors, including a spin-off sports podcast and video content. Let us know what you’d like to see us mix it up in the local sports scene by contacting us or emailing francke@canbyfirst.com.
