Portland Man Found Murdered at Scene of Clackamas County Apartment Fire

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a Portland man found murdered at the scene of a third-story apartment fire in Happy Valley this week.

Clackamas Fire District crews initially responded to the scene just after 1 p.m. Thursday at Avana at Happy Valley Apartments on Southeast Causey Avenue. While extinguishing the blaze in Building F, firefighters discovered the body of a man and contacted the sheriff’s office.

The victim was later identified as 35-year-old Jeremy Paul Kellogg. An autopsy by the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Kellogg was murdered, officials said.

According to police, Kellogg was known to frequent downtown Portland and sometimes went by the nickname “Billy.” Detectives are asking the public for tips as they continue to investigate.
