Clackamas County Fire Agencies End Open Burning Season Early

Clackamas County fire officials on Thursday moved to shut down the area’s backyard burning season a week ahead of schedule, citing unfavorable weather conditions.

The ban was effective immediately as of June 8, one week ahead of the usual end of the open burn season on June 15.

“As each day goes by, weather conditions have identified the need to take preventative fire measures to reduce the risk of wildfire,” the Clackamas County Fire Defense Board said in a press release from the Canby Fire District. “Thank you and have a safe summer.”

The ban covers backyard, agricultural and slash burning in Clackamas County. Approved recreational fire pits and ceremonial or warming fires are permitted as the area’s fire rating remain below extreme levels.
