City Seeks Proposals for Former Library Building

For almost 30 years, the city-owned building at 292 N. Holly was a community center, a hub for meeting, learning and engaging with fun activities and interesting people. Most residents knew it, simply, as the Canby Public Library.

But since the library’s 2016 move to its new location at 220 NE 2nd Ave., the 11,000-square-foot commercial office building has sat vacant, awaiting its next chapter.

Now, the city is seeking a new occupant for the downtown property, either through outright sale or a lease agreement of some kind. The city has issued a request for interested parties, and economic development staff are hoping to receive interest from businesses or uses that fill missing niches in the community, provide well-paying jobs and attract residents, visitors and other businesses to the downtown core.

Proposals will be ranked based on whether the use will offer nighttime or weekend hours, the buyer or tenant’s finances and history, the quality of proposed renovations and the level and nature of city participation that would be needed for the project.

Proposals are due to Canby Economic Development Jamie Stickel by Nov. 16.
