CCC Offering Professional Development Courses to Help Businesses Grow Their Own Talent

Clackamas Community College’s Connections with Business and Industry (CBI) works with Portland metro businesses to grow and develop their own talent. CBI provides comprehensive business support to help business owners and managers get the tools, staffing, training and resources needed for their employees to succeed.

This winter, CBI is offering a variety of classes that are open to businesses. The college partners with qualified experts to design courses that reflect unique industry requirements. You don’t need to apply or be a student to attend.

Upcoming courses include:

Project Management: 8 a.m.-1 p.m.; Jan. 20 and 22; Wilsonville campus. Cost: $389/person

This entry-level workshop provides a foundational understanding of the project management lifecycle and constraint model, and introduces basic project management tools and techniques.

Leadership Essentials Series: 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; every other Tuesday; Jan. 21-June 9; Wilsonville campus. Cost: $1,599/person. Registration deadline: Jan. 7.

This course is intended for current or future supervisors and managers to learn and practice impactful leadership skills they can apply immediately. Participants engage in hands-on, highly experiential learning activities designed to be relevant to their specific working environment.

Participants will explore what it takes to be an effective leader in their organization. They will learn to inspire people and influence improvement by developing effective teams. Participants will also practice making high-quality decisions, stimulate growth and appropriately deal with conflict and performance issues.

  • Delegating with purpose
  • Setting goals and reviewing results
  • Human resources for leaders
  • Driving change
  • Emerging Leader: 8 a.m.-noon; Wednesdays, Feb. 12,19, 26, and March 4, 11, 18 on the Harmony campus in Milwaukie; Wednesdays, April 15, 22, 29 and May 6, 13, 20 on the Wilsonville campus. Cost: $695/person.

    This course addresses the skills a new leader needs to transition from being an independent contributor to leading others. This program will support new leaders in their role, and will prepare them for more advanced leadership training. Participants explore concepts such as adjusting to a leadership role, interaction with people of various personalities, effective communication, conflict resolution, goal setting, and time management.

    Personal Care Assistant Program: Two-week (56-hour) program with a variety of delivery options based on need.

    Employers, county and state agencies now have access to an affordable and efficient personal care assistant (PCA) certification program provided by Clackamas Community College. Participants learn basic caregiving skills that will benefit new and incumbent, non-licensed home care providers and caregivers in long-term and residential care communities.

    Training includes nursing assistant skills, customer service, communication skills, professional standards, memory care and home management skills. Upon completion, participants will receive a state of Oregon recognized non-credit training certificate.

    Training is facilitated by a registered nurse, and participants will meet the requirements for HB 3359 pre-service six-hour dementia care.
