Canby Public Works Gets Early Morning Call to Clean Broken Glass

It was a long day for Canby Public Works Thursday, after an early morning call to clean broken glass from residential streets in north Canby — evidently the work of unknown persons deliberately breaking glass from recycling bins.

Canby City Administrator Scott Archer told The Canby Current that Canby Police was the first to receive the call for assistance, which they forward to Public Works at approximately 1:15 a.m.

“Apparently, some person or persons had gone around breaking glass from residential recycle bins into our roadways,” Archer said. “The quantities were too large to clean by hand.”

The incidents occurred in the areas of Northwest 10th and Birch, North Cedar and North Knights Bridge roads.

Archer said Public Works staff responded quickly and had the city’s street sweeper activated to clean up the glass in these spots from about 2 to 3 a.m.

He also checked around some of the other areas near these locations for additional broken glass, Archer said.
