Canby Cowboy Takes Home Gold Buckle in First NFR Championship Appearance

He did it! After 10 rounds against the greatest cowboys in the world, riding the best bulls modern breeding can produce, Canby’s own Chase Dougherty has come out on top in the National Finals Rodeo!

As the only cowboy with six qualified rides heading into the 10th and final go-round Saturday night, all Chase needed to win the NFR average for bull riding was a score of any kind, and he delivered!

Riding New Frontier Rodeo‘s Wall Cloud, Chase held on for the 8 seconds and scored an 82.5. It was good for third on the night, and another check ($22,987), his seventh of the finals.

Chase leaves Vegas with just over $342,000 in earnings on the season, which puts him second place behind four-time bull riding world champion Sage Kimzey. He was also the RAM Top Gun Award winner, having earned the most at the NFR, which also netted him a brand-new Dodge truck.

The 20-year-old cowboy and 2016 Canby High School grad is in just his second year as a professional bull rider. This was his first time qualifying for the NFR, the annual season-ending rodeo championships held at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.
