Canby Center Serves Record Number of Students at Backpack Giveaway

It’s officially September, and that means one thing: Summer is (almost) over, and a new school year is just around the corner.

Hey — stop throwing stuff at your computer screen. I’m just the messenger here. I don’t make the calendars.

Anyway, The Canby Center celebrated the occasion in its traditional way this past Saturday, handing out free backpacks stuffed with school supplies to a record-breaking 434 Canby students at its annual community resource hub, backpack giveaway and back-to-school bash on August 27.

The luau-themed event included free cotton candy and other treats, hot dogs grilled up by Canby firefighters and local Boy Scouts, donated athletic equipment from Pass It On! Canby, a photo booth, bounce house and other family fun.

The Canby Center thanks local businesses, churches, clubs, organizations and individuals who supported the event with school supply drives throughout the year. For more information or to access resources, visit thecanbycenter.org.
