Canby Boys Basketball Shows Remarkable Turnaround in Snapping Four-Game Skid

The Canby boys basketball team had been holding their heads high through a four-game skid in Three Rivers League play, which had included a 46-47 heartbreaker they’d dropped to Tigard at home the previous week. This week, they showed a remarkable turnaround.

They kicked things off with Lakeridge at home, and the poor Pacers, who are winless in the league this season, didn’t know what they were getting themselves into. The Cougs blew the doors off the gym, taking the game 75-47, and snapping the losing streak in emphatic fashion.

They followed it up with a road contest against Oregon City — always a tough draw. But they hung tight and pulled out a second straight win, 55-53, to improve to 5 and 4 in the Three Rivers.

The girls also defeated Lakeridge, and were in the midst of a four-game winning streak when they rolled into OC on Friday. The Cougs had bested the Pioneers in their first match-up in January, but Oregon City has been red hot lately, climbing to sixth in the state rankings and winning their last five games.

Facing Canby for the second time, it seemed like the girls from Oregon City had forgotten how to miss shots. They took the game, 48 to 31.

Another pair of Three Rivers League double-headers this week, as the Cougars face tough road match-ups against West Linn on Tuesday (both the girls and boys teams are ranked in the top 10), then wrap things up at home against Tualatin on Friday.

Tip-off will be at 5:45 for the boys and 7:15 for the girls.
