Up and down all season, the boys and girls basketball teams are both in the midst of a tough final stretch as the playoff picture crystallizes. Four games last week and four losses against Three Rivers League powerhouses West Linn and Tualatin.
The boys, 11-12 on the season and ranked 30th in the state, are hoping to hang on to a playoff berth. Their final regular season matchup will not be an easy one: They face sixth-ranked Lake Oswego at home at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The Lakers are 14 and 8 this year but have yet to lose a single Three Rivers League match.
Ranked 14th, the girls have little chance of falling out of the playoff picture, but may lose their chance at hosting their postseason opener without a win or two in their final games.
Fortunately, both games are winnable. Exactly the opposite of their male counterparts, the Lake Oswego girls team has not won a league matchup this year.
The girls will wrap their season at home against St. Mary’s Academy on Friday. The Blues and Cougars are neck and neck in the state rankings this year, but Canby took their first contest, 49 to 41.
