On Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, Americans will commemorate the 18th anniversary of one of the most tragic days in modern U.S. history.
On that fateful and tragic day, a well-orchestrated and brutal series of terrorist attacks on American soil cut short the lives of 2,977 innocent people, forever changed the lives of countless first responders, New Yorkers and family members, and set into motion events that would alter the course of history for the country and the world.
Canby Fire Division Chief Matt English says the ceremony is all about remembering the fallen heroes from that day, as well as those who are still with us.
“We want to do that in memory of all the people we lost on that day and throughout the tragedy,” English said, “to show the solidarity we have as a community and a nation.”
The event will include an honor guard, bell ceremony, guest speakers and an invocation, with refreshments to follow. The service starts at 8 a.m., and South Pine in front of the station will be closed during the event.
