California Man Hurt in Second Serious Crash Involving Semis on I-5 in Less than 24 Hours

A California man was critically injured in an early morning crash on Interstate 5 near Gervais Wednesday morning.

Oregon State Police say that a Chevy Tahoe, occupied by J. Ivan Aguilar-Dimas, age 33, from California, was parked on the shoulder of I-5 northbound at approximately 4:15 a.m., when a Peterbuilt truck and semi-trailer left the roadway for unknown reasons and crashed into him.

It was the second serious accident involving semi-trucks to occur on I-5 in less than 24 hours. The previous afternoon, a semi driver from Salem was severely burned in a fiery crash that happened only about three miles north of this one.

Aguilar-Dimas was transported by air ambulance to Salem Hospital for treatment of injuries police described as critical. The driver of the Peterbuilt truck, later identified as Carl Bibow, age 57, from Riddle, received minor injuries.
