After a tough opening week for the Cougars, Canby boys soccer drew another difficult matchup Tuesday in undefeated Southridge, and the Skyhawks emerged victorious in a high-scoring shootout.
Southridge struck first in the 13th minute with a goal from the top of the box. The game remained 1-0 until an absolute frenzy of scoring that took place over a matter of four minutes.
Southridge struck first with their first two goals within 50 seconds of each other, one a header and one a free kick, before Canby struck back with a goal of their own on a through ball that snuck by the Skyhawk defense. Southridge would then manage three more goals to take a commanding 6-1 lead before another Canby goal cut into the lead.
The second half was not quite as prolific as the eight-goal first, with Canby managing one score on a mishandled free kick and Southridge punched in two more to close the game at 8-3.
With the loss, Canby slips to 0-2. However, both of their opponents in McKay and Southridge have gone undefeated so far in this young season. Canby gets another tough matchup against undefeated Lakeridge on Monday.
