Body of Missing Albany Man Discovered in Willamette River Near Buena Vista Ferry

The partially decomposed body of a 26-year-old Albany man who had been missing since November was found last week, floating in the Willamette River near the Buena Vista Ferry, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The grisly discovery was made by a boater at approximately 11:22 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27. Marion County deputies responded to the scene to investigate along with emergency personnel from the Jefferson Fire District.

Marine Patrol and Search and Rescue Deputies coordinated the recovery of the body by boat.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy the following day and made a tentative identification. Efforts were made to confirm the man’s identity, and his next of kin was notified.

On Friday, March 6, the MCSO identified the man as Albany area resident Alexander Crocker. Crocker was reported as missing to the Albany Police Department in December 2019, after family had not heard from him since late November.

The autopsy by the state medical examiner discovered no signs of foul play, police said.
