Aurora Man Injured in Fatal Crash near Newberg

An Aurora man was injured in a fatal two-vehicle crash on Highway 219 outside Newberg Tuesday night, Oregon State Police reported.

According to troopers’ preliminary investigation, 20-year-old Alexander Lewis, of Aurora, was driving southbound near Wynooski Road when he moved into the opposite lane to pass a tow truck hooking up a trailer on the side of the road.

Firefighters are on scene of a serious MVC on Hwy 219 in Newberg just south of Wynooski. Hwy 219 is Closed in both directions. Multiple patients entrapped in two vehicles. Please avoid the area.

His Nissan Frontier collided head-on with a Kia driven by Erika Wanmer, 22, of Dayton, at approximately 6:15 p.m., police said.

Lewis was transported by ambulance to OHSU. Wanmer sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wanmer’s passenger, Grehan Dutton, 27, also of Dayton, was transported by air ambulance to Legacy Emanuel.

Update on Hwy 219 MVC. All patients have been extricated. @LifeFlightNtwrk transporting one patient to a trauma center. Sadly, one patient has died on scene. Hwy 219 will remained closed for accident reconstruction.

219 was closed in both directions while crews worked the scene.

OSP was assisted by the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, Newberg-Dundee Police Department, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
