Apparent Suicide in Motor Home Following Crash on 99E near Barlow

The driver of a motor home involved in a minor collision at the intersection of Highway 99E and Barlow Road died Friday night following a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Oregon State Police has confirmed.

On Saturday, OSP identified the man as Mark Lewis Herman, 59, of Canby, saying he was discovered inside the tan Bounder motor home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound “immediately following the crash.”

No one else involved in the two-vehicle crash was injured. The collision occurred just after 4 p.m., according to OSP’s preliminary report.

OSP crash deconstructionists and detectives, along with the Clackamas County Medical Examiner, responded and assisted with the investigation.

Highway 99E was temporarily closed following the incident Friday while law enforcement investigated and worked to clear the scene.
