Agencies Rush to Aid Lone Trooper Fighting Subject on I-5 Overpass

Multiple agencies, including Canby police, rushed to the aid of a lone Oregon State trooper whom multiple witnesses reported fighting to subdue a suspect on the Miley Road overpass on Interstate 5 in Wilsonville Saturday morning.

Lacharles Collins.

According to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, multiple 911 calls came in at approximately 9:30 a.m. regarding a lone female trooper fight to get a male subject in custody.

The trooper herself also requested “code 3” cover — which, in police parlance, typically signals an officer in a fight and needing immediate assistance.

Clackamas County deputies, along with officers from the police departments in Canby, Gladstone and Tualatin, rushed to the scene.

The sheriff’s office says the trooper was successful in apprehending the subject. Deputies and officers arrived to ensure no further assistance was needed.

The suspect, 30-year-old Lacharles Collins, was arrested on a fugitive parole violation warrant out of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for eluding, child abuse and domestic Violence.

He is now facing new charges for resisting arrest and driving under the influence of intoxicants.

He was booked at the Clackamas County Jail without further incident.
