The Canby Heritage and Landmark Commission (HLC) is holding a public meeting from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 22 in the Willamette Room of the Canby Public Library to review the findings of the recent public survey on preserving Canby’s heritage and to gather additional public input.
The meeting will give people an opportunity to share their reaction to the survey results and their ideas about how the city should preserve its past. The survey and the public meeting are part of the HLC’s comprehensive historic preservation initiative.
Using National Park Service funding obtained through the State Historic Preservation Organization and a grant from the Kinsman Foundation, the HLC has contracted with Northwest Vernacular (NWV), a historic preservation consulting firm, to do this work.
Per Carol Palmer said the results of the survey and the input we receive at the public meeting will shape the recommendations that are included in the final report. That report will be presented to the city council in May.
“It will be an important resource for the city’s elected officials as they make decisions about how and where growth occurs, while ensuring that we do not lose our small-town heritage,” Palmer explained.
