Police Beat for the week of April 30th through May 6.
On April 30, at 12:31 am, an officer stopped a speeding vehicle with expired tags on NE 4th Avenue, only to notice the driver looked kind of familiar. As it turns out, this same officer had stopped this same driver for doing the exact same things the night before. The driver was subsequently arrested for DUII – controlled substance, felon in possession of a restricted weapon and possession of heroin.
That afternoon, at 2:12 p.m., officers responded to a two vehicle, non-injury crash, involving a passenger car rear-ending a school bus on Highway 99E. The driver of the passenger car was cited for Following Too Closely.
Later that night, at 11:35 p.m., an officer was approached on South Pine Street by someone who asked if he was prohibited from carrying a knife he had in his possession, considering his status as a convicted felon. The officer examined the knife, which featured a concealed, spring-loaded blade, and confirmed it was a violation of the law for him to carry it. The officer seized the knife. … Uh, dude? Maybe, just Google it next time?
On May 2, at 5:38 pm, a transient woman contacted the owner of a lost wallet to return it to them, but when she failed to meet as they had agreed, the incident was reported to police. An officer later contacted the woman, and accompanied her to a camp in a neighboring city, where the wallet was retrieved. No items were taken.
On May 3, at 12:25 am, officers responded to a report of a man yelling and singing outside of a closed store on NE 2nd Avenue. Officers contacted the man, and notified him he had been trespassed from the location and needed to move along. Sigh. It’s times like this, I really wish we did a video podcast.
On May 5, at 7:11 pm, a local resident realized they had forgotten their phone, along with some personal items, at a store on SW 1st Avenue.They returned to the store, but the phone was gone, along everything else, and had not been turned in.
Finally, on May 6, at 5:24 pm, officers responded to a report of an intoxicated person sitting in a vehicle in a store parking lot on NE 2nd Avenue. After the driver was transported to a medical facility for evaluation, officers took him into custody for driving under the influence of intoxicants.
