A fourth resident has died from complications of Covid-19 at the Marquis Hope Village Post-Acute Rehab center in Canby.
The facility reported the death to the Canby Now Podcast Sunday night after informing other residents and family, but said it had actually occurred the previous day.
“Our hearts continue to go out to the family and friends of this resident, our residents, and to the staff who have cared deeply and tirelessly in the resident’s final days,” said April Diaz, vice president of clinical services for Marquis Companies, which owns the facility. “Our focus continues to be on the care and comfort of our residents as we support them through their COVID infection.”
The third resident death linked to the outbreak at Marquis Hope Village was reported late Friday night. The facility has been connected to 69 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, including a total of 36 staff members and 33 residents, making it the state’s largest active outbreak at a long-term care facility.
The rehab center had 38 residents when the outbreak began on June 4, meaning virtually all of them have tested positive for the virus. Their conditions run the gamut from asymptomatic to mild or moderate symptoms to critical.
“The next two weeks are going to be challenging,” Diaz admitted. “Our focus is on the health of our residents and staff.”
The earliest possible indicator for Covid-19 at the facility was an employee who reported feeling ill on May 31 and was sent home pending a test. It came back positive on June 4, the same day the first resident developed a low-grade fever.
The facility is working with Clackamas County and state public health officials to contact trace the outbreak, but representatives said identifying the specific source in an environment of what they termed “massive asymptomatic spread” would be extremely difficult.
