Thirty-one out of 39 residents have tested positive for the novel coronavirus at the Marquis Hope Village Post-Acute Rehab Center in Canby. Three of the facility’s 146 staff members also have confirmed cases, with more results pending.
“While the number of residents that have tested positive can feel overwhelming, the majority of the residents continue to show mild/moderate to no symptoms of the infection,” April Diaz, Marquis Companies vice president of clinical services, said in an email to the Canby Now Podcast.
Two additional residents, who were discharged to a hospital prior to June 5 due to other clinical conditions, have also tested positive for Covid-19, a spokeswoman confirmed Monday.
The facility is working with the Clackamas County Health Department to conduct testing and contact tracing of all residents and employees at the Marquis campus. All staff at the Post-Acute Rehab center will be tested on Monday.
“Our goal is to identify any additional asymptomatic staff members as part of our contact tracing,” Diaz said.
She said staff are focused on monitoring the needs and comfort of residents at the post-acute facility, as well as protecting the 74 residents at the Marquis Hope Village Assisted Living Facility, which is located in the same building.
“We have isolated our Hope Village Post-Acute Rehab facility from our Assisted Living in every attempt to prevent spread of Covid-19,” she said. “We will be testing all staff and residents at Hope Village Assisted Living as a measure of our desire to be vigilant in identifying any potential case of Covid-19.”
She said staff members are carefully monitoring assisted living residents for any symptoms consistent with the coronavirus. They are also wearing N95 respirators and other personal protective equipment to protect themselves and help mitigate the spread.
Residents who have tested positive have been isolated from the general population and are being cared for by dedicated staff members.
The 34 cases make Marquis Hope Village the second largest active outbreak among the state’s long-term care facilities, after Prestige Senior Living Orchard Heights in Salem.
Other facilities that have seen large outbreaks include Portland’s Healthcare at Foster Creek (119) and Laurelhurst Village (48) and the Oregon Veterans’ Home in Lebanon (38), but these have not seen new cases in at least 28 days and are no longer considered active.
The Marquis outbreak also nearly doubles the 35 total cases that had been linked to the Canby ZIP code as of May 31.
