Thirty-one additional employees at the Marquis Hope Village Post-Acute Rehab center have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the facility confirmed Thursday evening, for a total of 36.
This completes testing for the approximately 100 employees who work at the rehab center. The majority are asymptomatic, while some staff members are showing mild symptoms, according to Marquis Companies Vice President of Clinical Services April Diaz.
A total of 33 residents have also been diagnosed with confirmed cases of Covid-19, the facility reported, including two who had previously tested negative — which may have been a false result. That means virtually all of the rehab center’s 38 residents have been impacted, though Marquis has said most are showing no to mild or moderate symptoms.
The total of 69 confirmed cases linked to the Canby facility makes it the largest active outbreak in the state, and the second-largest all-time behind Foster Creek in Portland — which was shut down by the state last month after being linked to 119 cases and 28 deaths.
Two deaths have been connected to the Hope Village outbreak so far, both of which were reported Wednesday.
Fortunately, the outbreak does not appear to have spread to the adjacent Marquis Hope Village Assisted Living Facility — which is located in the same building but separated by internal walls. All 74 residents have tested negative.
Marquis is continuing to test all 146 staff members on campus, including the 46 assigned to the assisted living facility, but said the results may not be returned for several days.
“We continue to maintain our aggressive isolation precautions and remain dedicated to doing everything we can to care for our residents and staff,” Diaz said.
Though anyone can be sickened by Covid-19, those who are older and have underlying medical conditions are at much greater risk for serious complications or death. Of the 171 deaths the state has linked to Covid-19 as of Saturday, only 12 have been younger than 60.
