Clackamas Community College has hired a new executive director of the college’s Foundation. John Chang will begin his new role effective Sept. 2.
Chang brings experience in fundraising, donor relations, business development and grant management. His previous work includes working as executive director of Young Entrepreneurs Business Week (YEBW), a statewide organization providing business programs and pre-college experiences for students across 36 Oregon counties and 17 states.
During his tenure at YEBW Chang raised $1.5 million in scholarships for students attending the programs, substantially increasing the diversity, equity and inclusion reach of the nonprofit. Prior to YEBW, he also served as director of finance and operations at Social Venture Partners and operations controller at Guten Foods.
He earned his bachelor of science degree in labor economics from the University of Oregon, a degree in financial accounting from Portland State University and a master’s in theological studies from Western Seminary in Portland.
“Having experienced firsthand the difference education can make in a person’s life, I am passionate about community college and getting students the resources they need – and deserve – to succeed,” Chang said. “I’m just a normal guy who fell in love with the Clackamas Community College campus the moment I set foot on it. I really fell in love – there was just something about CCC that spoke to me.”
The Foundation executive director is responsible for the fundraising and friend-raising side of the college, including student scholarships. Many CCC students balance school with work and family. Scholarships can make a difference in their ability to juggle their commitments, making education accessible. Last year, the Foundation awarded $710,389 in scholarships.
“Clackamas Community College is fortunate to have John Chang as its new Foundation executive director. He understands our mission of providing affordable, accessible and flexible education to the community,” CCC President Tim Cook said.
Chang replaces Paul Moredock, who retired in June.
