A Milwaukie man is in custody for his alleged role in a stabbing at Willamalane Apartments, located on Southeast Boardman Avenue in unincorporated urban Clackamas County.
Gavin Scott Hotchkiss, 24, was the lead suspect in the stabbing that occurred at approximately 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22. By the time deputies with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene, the suspect had fled.
Deputies began rendering medical aid to the victim, joined by paramedics with Clackamas Fire District No. 1 and American Medical Response. The victim, whom police have not identified, was transported to OHSU via ground ambulance.
Deputies then received a call regarding a suspicious male near SE River Road and Oak Shore Court, approximately two miles away from the scene of the stabbing. Callers reported a male was walking in that area at a “high rate of speed,” wearing nothing but underwear — and the man was also bleeding from the head.
Deputies and investigators quickly identified the man in his underwear was the outstanding suspect from the stabbing and took him into custody. Deputies also requested medical personnel to the scene and had the suspect medically cleared.
Hotchkiss was transported to Clackamas County Jail, where he was lodged on charges of first, second and fourth-degree assault, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, harrassment and parole violation. Bail was set at $275,000.
Detectives are still investigating why Hotchkiss allegedly entered the apartment and stabbed the victim. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office Tip Line by phone at 503-723-4949 or by using the online email form. Please reference CCSO Case No. 20-020402.
