Light Up the Night Parade, Event Returns to Downtown Canby

The traditional kickoff of the holiday season will be back in person and at full strength this year, as the Light Up the Night parade and event returns to downtown Canby.

The 20th annual iteration of the popular tree-lighting event will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3.

The lighted parade will follow a new route created by the City of Canby and Canby Fire District to ensure safety for parade participants and viewers alike.

The parade will finish at Wait Park at approximately 6:30 p.m. as the Fire district delivers Santa and Mrs. Claus down North Grant Street.

The Oregon Trail Pitchpipers, a local barbershop-style musical group, will perform holiday songs to welcome the community back to the Wait Park gazebo.

This year’s parade will follow a new route mapped out by the city and Canby Fire.

As in previous years, including 2020, a community member will be chosen to flip the lights on through the Who Lights Up Canby Contest, which asks for nominations of “electric” individuals who give back to the community and make Canby a better place.

Children of all ages are encouraged to stay for a chat and photo opportunity with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Santa will stay until the last child has the opportunity to share.

Once the presenters are finished and Wait Park is lit up with holiday lights and cheer, the Wartime Orchestra — Canby’s premier big band — will perform holiday music in Wait Park starting at approximately 7 p.m.

More information about the event is available on the city’s website at canbyoregon.gov. For additional questions, contact Economic Development Director and Communications Specialist Jamie Stickel at StickelJ@CanbyOregon.gov or 503-266-0701.
