Word is getting out about Canby’s newest barbershop, a team-up featuring three stylists previously known for their association at Howard’s on NW 1st.
Nikki Griesenauer and Robyn Renee Flynn worked together for four years (the last two and a half at Howard’s) before opening their new shop, Nicks & Cuts Barbershop, last week. They also brought along Chris Birt, another master of the tonsorial arts, who had joined the Howard’s crew earlier this year.
“We all work incredibly well together,” Griesenauer says. “We support each other, help each other and call each other out when we need it. I wouldn’t want to work with anyone else after working with them.”
The name of the shop may or may not be a reference to Griesenauer — though she had nothing to do with it. The other two came up with it, and Griesenauer suspects it might have been a bit of a deal sweetener to get her to sign on for the new venture.
Not that it was really necessary. The trio works well together and has the same goals when it comes to the business, she says.
“We just work so well together,” she says. “And our end goal is the same: To give great quality haircuts and service to everyone that walks through our doors.”
At Howard’s, Griesenauer, Flynn and Birt were all known for their active social media presence, which they used to grow their business and promote the shop. There’s no question they hope to continue to leverage those skills with this new venture.
“The only way to make sure people know where we are is to advertise,” Griesenauer explains. “I will continue to do what I’ve always done, and that’s to get the word out! I am so proud of us and what we are going to accomplish.”
Nicks & Cuts is located at 917 SW 4th Ave., near Canby High School. The barber-owned shop specializes in premium haircuts at an affordable price. All cuts include a complimentary hot lather, straight-edge neck shave. They also off straight-razor shaves.
The experience also includes a cold beer or soda while you wait (or even a shot of whiskey). And kids leave with a matchbox car to take home, too (no whiskey for them, though).
