Human Remains Found in Northeast Salem Ruled Homicide

The cause of death of an unidentified man, whose remains were discovered beneath a duplex in northeast Salem Wednesday, has been ruled a homicide.

The determination was made following an autopsy Friday afternoon at the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office. Investigators from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office are still working to identify the victim, who is believed to have been deceased for several weeks before his remains were discovered.

That happened on June 10, when officers were called to a duplex in the 3600 block of 47th Avenue NE by a family who reported smelling “a foul odor.” The remains were initially discovered by deputies assigned to the East Salem Service District, who called for MCSO detectives to take over the investigation.

More specific details about the cause and manner of death have not been released.
