An event more than two and a half years in the making is finally set to bring the Roaring Twenties back to the heart of downtown Canby next month.
A “Roaring Good Time,” a Great Gatsby-themed event planned for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, November 5, at Gwynn’s Coffeehouse, was originally set for March 2020 before it became one of the first local events to be postponed due to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The event will feature swanky music, local vendors, wine and food and raffle prizes, as well as an optional costume contest — so be sure not to leave the pearls, boas, beaded flapper dresses, pinstripe suits, suspenders and fedoras at home.
“It’s exciting to finally make this come to fruition,” said organizer Donna Bryant. “I promised several people in the community I would follow through, and it’s now happening. The Canby Center is thrilled and supporting me with their volunteers. I am hoping for a huge turnout.”
Admission is $15, plus a donation of one non-perishable food item. All proceeds benefit The Canby Center food bank, and as Bryant admits, the need for such a charitable undertaking has only increased in the past two and a half years.
“There are lots of families out there that need extra assistance putting food on the table since the costs have risen so much,” Bryant said. “It’s my goal to help lessen that burden. As a citizen, it’s quite an undertaking, but there are more than a few friends and family helping out.”
