It’s official. Canby’s new city administrator will be Scott McClure, current administrator of the city of Monmouth in Polk County. McClure will replace current Canby City Administrator Rick Robinson, who has been in the position since 2014 but retires at the end of October.
McClure’s appointment was announced in July but just became official after the city council approved his contract in a meeting earlier this month. McClure will start in his new position Oct. 7, and so will have several weeks’ overlap before Robinson passes the torch.
His annual base salary will be $150,000, along with health, life and disability insurance, retirement benefits (through PERS) and other fringe benefits. He will also receive the use of a car for city-related business and a cell phone stipend of $75 a month.
Raises will be considered annually based on merit, budget situation, a satisfactory performance evaluation and approval by the city council.
Should McClure be fired without cause, the city’s contract allows for him to receive six months’ salary and six months of health insurance. If he is terminated for cause, or resigns voluntarily, he will not be entitled to severance.
McClure has served as Monmouth’s city administrator since 2007. Prior to that, he had held the position of city manager for Coos Bay and Brush, Colo. He was an analyst for the city of Gladstone from 1989 to 1996.
He holds a Master of Public Administration and a bachelor’s in political science, both from Portland State University.
