An Aurora man has been charged in connection with a crash in northern Marion County last week that left another man — his passenger — dead.
Georgi Cam, 52, turned himself in at the Marion County Jail Wednesday after a grand jury indicted him on charges of second-degree manslaughter, fourth-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving.
The crash occurred at approximately 1 p.m. Aug. 1 on Waypark Drive NE east of Howell Prairie Road NE.
Marion County Sheriff’s Office investigators found that a Chevrolet Corvette, allegedly driven by Cam, was headed eastbound when it hit a 2005 Ford Explorer driving in the opposite direction.
Cam’s passenger, 57-year-old Erofei Cam, of Gervais, did not survive the crash.
Georgi Cam and the other driver, 56-year-old Curtis Chaudoin, of Woodburn, sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Cam, who is also a longtime Canby-area home builder at G Cam Ltd., is currently lodged at the Marion County Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Marion County Circuit Court Annex. Bail has not been set.
