The Canby School District has announced the appointment of a new principal for Carus Elementary School, replacing head Sam Thompson, who was tabbed to take over as principal of Baker Middle School in the fall.
Nicole Goff, previously an instructional coach in Tigard, was chosen from a pool of candidates after impressing district leaders during the interview process.
According to Superintendent Dr. Aaron Downs, Goff’s impressive educational experience and enthusiasm to join the Carus community made her an excellent choice for the position.
“Nicole has impressive educational experience, and she is excited to be a part of the Carus community,” said Superintendent Dr. Aaron Downs. “She will be an incredible leader in our school district.”
Goff has previously worked as an elementary classroom teacher and summer school administrator in the Oregon City School District. She holds a bachelor’s degree in science and a master’s degree in education and is a licensed principal.
Before Thompson’s departure, the Carus community was given the opportunity to provide input on the qualities they desired in a new principal. Goff emerged as the top candidate, with her elementary teaching experience, strong communication and listening skills, and ability to build relationships.
Goff expressed her excitement to return to a small-town community and build lasting connections with Carus families.
“I have small-town roots and coming back to that with a community at Carus is something I look forward to,” she said. “I want to build relationships and lasting connections in the Carus community.”
She is an avid reader and resides in West Linn with her husband and three children.
Goff will assume her new role on July 1, 2023.
