I think we can all agree: Clackamas County looks pretty good for 175. The county will celebrate its 175th with a public event at 11 a.m., Oct. 25, at the Public Services Building in Oregon City.
The agenda for the hour-long event includes the following:
- A description of the items that will be buried inside a time capsule, to be lowered later that day on the grounds of the Red Soils Campus. The capsule will be buried for 50 years.
- An introduction and recognition of all living former Clackamas County Commissioners.
- A presentation from local historian Patrick Harris, Executive Director for the Aurora Colony Historical Society, about the history of Clackamas County.
- Reenactor Doug Neeley, former Oregon City Mayor, giving a talk as John McLoughlin.
Refreshments will be provided after the event. The public is invited to attend, but due to limited space, RSVPs are required. An overflow room will be available as needed.

In 1843, the Clackamas District was created by the state’s provisional legislature, along with Champooick (later renamed Marion), Twality (later renamed Washington), and Yamhill.
