The University of Oregon Ducks volleyball program formally announced and welcomed this week a new addition, Daley McClellan, a Canby High School senior and one of the standouts of the remarkable 2019 Cougar squad that finished third in the state.
Oregon head coach Matt Ulmer announced the addition of Daley McClellan to the program’s 2021 freshman class on Wednesday, saying the Canby native would join the program in this fall.
“We are so excited to announce that Daley McClellan is a part of our 2021 recruiting class,” Ulmer said in a news release. “Daley is a fantastic all-around volleyball player that brings a diverse skill set and tremendous passion for the game to MKA.”
McClellan received Three Rivers League Player of the Year honors as a junior in 2019. She was also selected first-team 6A all-state after hitting .313 with 46 aces, highlighted by a 52-kill performance in the 6A state semifinals.
McClellan was a workhorse for Canby in the postseason that year, hitting .304 while taking 423 swings compared to 522 for the rest of the team to earn all-tournament honors, helping them to a 6A state third-place finish.
“Daley is a six-rotation pin attacker that controls the ball at a high level,” said Ulmer. “It is important to keep great home-grown Oregon talent in our gym and Daley is a Duck all the way. She will have a big impact on both the indoor and beach teams during her college career.”
Back in November, her high school coach, Terri Jo Schlatter, called McClellan a “complete player” and said she would fit in seamlessly with the high-paced offense favored by the Ducks.
“Daley is a special person and will make an incredible teammate,” said Schlatter. “She is a hard worker and a positive presence in the gym. They will love her!”
As a sophomore in 2018, she earned first-team All-Three Rivers League honors, a year after receiving first-team All-Three Rivers League and all-state honorable mention recognition as a freshman.
In 2017, McClellan hit .323 with 246 kills and 106 digs to go along with 32 aces. She was named the MVP of the Emerald City Classic twice in the summers of 2017 and 2018 playing club ball for Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy.
McClellan will join Oregon’s two November signees to make up the incoming class of freshmen in the fall of 2021. The Ducks added top-100 prospects in Reagan Hope (No. 21) and Colby Neal (No. 88), both of whom were also ranked among the top 15 players overall in their home states.
