DirectLink Email Outage Continues to Affect Users

Spotty email service continues for some DirectLink users this week, as repeated efforts by the company’s technicians to address the issue have been unsuccessful.

The Canby-based telecommunications provider reported on July 7 that planned repairs the previous night had not gone as planned, and that the email server remained offline and inaccessible to members whose accounts are hosted on that system.

“While we are thankful the issue is centralized to a subset of DirectLink members, we fully understand that this is a frustrating time for anyone impacted by the situation and extend our deepest apologies for this inconvenience,” the co-op said. “We continue to explore every avenue to restore services as quickly as possible.”

The issue, which the cooperative has attributed to unexpected server congestion and other issues related to a third-party email vendor, have frustrated a number of local residential and business members, some of whom have reported to the Canby Now Podcast issues getting consistent access to their email for over a week.

While the company continues to work to fully restore POP/IMAP delivery to desktop clients and other devices, it encourages users to access their accounts through the fully functional webmail portal at mail.mydirectlink.net.

Messages accessed through webmail will still be delivered to desktop clients once the issues are corrected. Users will need their full email address and password to access the portal.

Through it all, DirectLink has maintained that no emails have been lost to cyberspace — only delayed.

“Your messages are safe,” the co-op said in its most recent update. “We have been informed that to date, no emails have been lost but are simply in a holding pattern waiting for the replacement system to be fully operational before delivery can occur.”
