Five Russian educational leaders participating in the Open World program will spend Nov. 1-9 in Oregon examining the specialized theme of the “Online and Blended Learning for Universities and Secondary Schools.” Clackamas Community College will host the delegation, which will be accompanied by a bicultural facilitator and an interpreter.
Managed by the independent Open World Leadership Center, Open World introduces rising leaders of emerging democracies to legislative functions essential to democracy. Open World maintains a network of leaders who have gained significant, firsthand exposure to America’s democratic, accountable government and free-market system.
The visiting delegates are educators from Northern (Artic) Federal University, Tyumen State University, St. Petersburg branch of the National Research University, Vladimir State University and the International School of Programming “CODDY.”
While in Oregon, the Open World delegation is scheduled to visit Oregon State University (OSU) Ecampus in Corvallis, the OSU Downtown Portland Center, Portland State University and the Lumen Learning organization. The Clackamas Community College Small Business Development Center will demonstrate its statewide teleconferencing system.
Delegates will learn about open educational resources and will present to the Oregon Community College Distance Learning Association. Delegates will also meet with U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer’s staff to learn about the U.S. legislative process.
Homestays will allow the Open World delegates to experience American family life. They will also take part in several cultural and community activities, including a Portland Spirit cruise.
More than 27,000 current and future leaders from post-Soviet era countries have participated in the Open World program. Open World offers one of the most effective U.S. exchange programs to promote mutually beneficial options for depolarized engagement between future national leaders.
