After a solid two-week stretch where Cougar volleyball won three games and hung close with one of the best teams in the state, the girls ran into a brick wall in the form of the Lake Oswego schools this past week.
Canby was blitzed by the Lakeridge Pacers in a game that the Cougs struggled from the very onset. The Pacers took advantage of Canby miscues and raced to a 25-13 first set win, before sweeping the next two sets 25-19, 25-12. It was the first time that Canby had failed to score 20 points or more on any set over the last three weeks.
Thursday saw the Lake Oswego Lakers sweep the Cougars for the second time this season. After losing in convincing fashion in their previous meeting, Canby was able to marginally improve, nearly winning the second set. After the Lakers took the first set 25-16, the Cougars fought hard to a 24-24 tie in the second. The Lakers managed to put away the Cougars in two swift points to win 26-24 before taking the final set 25-13.
After two matches that were not quite as close as expected, the girls hope to continue their trend of improvement in games against Tigard and Tualatin on Tuesday and Thursday this week. The Cougars beat the Tigers 3-1 in their last meeting and were swept by the Timberwolves.
