After dropping their first game to Liberty in the Southridge Tournament last weekend, the Canby Cougars were overmatched against the Sheldon Irish at home Wednesday, losing in three sets.
Canby fell behind early in the first two sets, dropping the opener 25-11 and the second set 25-13. The Cougars were able to jump out to a quick 10-5 lead in the third, but the Irish battled back to take the frame, 25-21, and the match.
The Cougars had to retool this season after losing two-time Three Rivers League Player of the Year Daley McClellan, who departed for the University of Oregon after finishing her historic high school career last spring.
Following her departure, Canby turns to youth. With only three seniors on the roster, the team looks to improve with each new week of experience.
The young Cougs will begin Three Rivers League play on Tuesday with a road tilt against Lake Oswego, before hosting Tigard on Thursday. Catch the action at 6:30 p.m.
