The Canby Cougar girls basketball team had the week off after a successful run at the West Coast Jamboree in Brentwood, Calif., one of the largest high school basketball tournaments in the country.
The girls dropped their first game against the tournament hosts and eventual overall champion, Heritage, for only their second loss of the season. They won their next two against tough California competition, San Joaquin Memorial and Valencia, to win the consolation bracket.
The tournament brings them to 6-2 on the season. They’re ranked third in the state in the OSAA power rankings, and 10th in the coaches’ poll for the third straight week.
Just one game this week but it won’t be an easy one: On Tuesday they hit the road for a non-league match against Sheldon, who are 9-2 and have won four straight.
