Izabela Kacalek punched her ticket to state first, finishing third in the women’s varsity, followed 15 seconds later by Jennifer Torres, who claimed fourth. When all had finished, Canby’s team score was high enough to edge St. Mary’s Academy and finish third overall.
For the men, Canby’s top finisher was a bit of a surprise, as sophomore Tommy O’Neill came in fifth. His time was a full minute and 23 second improvement from his performance at the Three Rivers League Preview meet at the start of the season, where he’d finished 34th.
Senior Matthew Powell, who has paced the men’s team at most meets this year, finished seventh to snag the final qualifying spot.
